Former envoy says Australia adaptable, wants open markets

Last Updated:2017-03-07

Geoff Raby discusses the changing nature of Australian-Chinese ties, China's new interest in Australia's service sector, and the future of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. He speaks on "Bloomberg Daybreak: Australia".

"I don't think anyone wants a world where protectionism is growing and a more inward-looking world would certainly harm Australia, which is a very open economy. But of course, where there's adversity there's opportunity. Australia is a very adaptable economy. If you think about the Asian financial crisis, Australia adjusted to that very quickly. It's about adaptability in these circumstances, but ultimately we all want freer trade."
